See What Workers Say About the Union
Have questions about what it means to join CWA? See what other wireless workers, who have joined the union, are saying about their experiences.
What's it like for workers who are CWA members?
"Before CWA, our pay increases were based on management’s subjective performance review process. Now, with CWA, we have guaranteed pay increases that are governed by what we negotiated for in our contract — not what some manager believes a worker should or shouldn’t have. This shows how you make a difference by acting collectively as a group."
Kelvin Banks, AT&T Mobility Jackson, Mississippi
How did the union help with the acquisition process?
After AT&T bought Cellular One, CWA fought to preserve our jobs and improve benefits. I can honestly say that I don’t know where I’d be today without our union. They fought on my behalf when I was wrongly accused of a violation of our code of conduct, and I won. They stepped in on many occasions when our rights were overlooked or our union contract wasn’t followed. I am proud to be a CWA member!
Joette Martuccio, AT&T Mobility, Boardman, Ohio
What does being in the union mean for pay/benefits?
When AT&T Mobility bought our company we worried that our call center would close, but that didn’t happen. Just after the merger, 70 percent of us at our call center signed union cards and we got CWA representation. With our union, we got better health benefits, a retirement plan, pay progression and other real gains. It’s made a real difference for us all. I will be on the job 17 years this year thanks to the choice we made.
Robert Hackenberg, AT&T Mobility, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
What does being in the union mean after the acquisition?
Being represented by CWA, along with over 42,000 AT&T workers across the country has meant having a strong voice on the job. It means better job security, less stress, and a safer workplace.
Skip Schuber, ATT tech, New Jersey
Has being in the union been good or bad for workers?
Several years ago, AT&T Mobility purchased Dobson Communications including its retail stores in Alaska where we worked. We are way better off as AT&T workers and, as CWA members, we have a voice in our workplace and the security of a binding union contract.
Anna Barnes, Raymond Schreiber and Daniel Pulu AT&T Mobility, Anchorage, Alaska
