More Job Cuts at T-Mobile

This morning T-Mobile CEO Philipp Humm sent an ominous e-mail communication to all employees suggesting that major job cuts lurked in the near future. He spoke of a “second essential step” after the closure of seven call centers (and the displacement of 3,300 employees) announced in March. Real Bargaining Rights Produce Big Gains for Ver.di Members at T-Mobile Parent Company

In a major victory for Deutsche Telekom and T-Mobile workers, ver.di — the union representing more than two million workers — announced a tentative agreement with DT that provides for a 6.5 percent pay increase over two years for 50,000 workers in Germany. According to CWA President Larry Cohen, the agreement is a tremendous step forward for ver.di, TU and the global labor movement.

Larry Cohen speaks to thousands of striking German DT workers
Today, Larry Cohen President of the Communications workers of America (CWA), gave a speech before 10,000 Deutsche Telekom workers. The rally took place in front of the hotel in Düsseldorf where T-Mobile USA's parent company Deutsche Telekom and union ver.di are bargaining a new contract for 85,000 DT’s workers.

Arguing that 3,300 working Americans should not face severe economic hardship because their employer chooses to offshore call center work, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) has requested that the U.S. Department of Labor grant Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) benefits to T-Mobile USA customer service representatives at seven U.S. call centers enters slated for closure in June.
